1. Welcome Sarah! It is a pleasure to have you visit the website. Can you tell us where do you live? Have you always lived there? Have you traveled much?
Currently, I live in Oregon with my family. We relocated here from Upstate New York. I’ve lived in two countries and eight states, that’s the life of a military brat. I love to travel and experience new places but at the end of the day the best place is home with my family. I’d like to mention that visiting Tuscany is on my bucket list.
2. When did you first consider yourself a writer?
I’ve always been a storyteller. My early years of daydreaming and my vivid imagination provided a wide-ranging of content, but it wasn’t until I turned thirty that I got the bug to actually sit down and write a novel.
3. Is there anything you find particularly challenging in your writing?
That’s a good question, and an easy answer. The most challenging part of writing for me is finding a good stopping point. My characters are so real that I want to tell their entire story. I see the end of the book as a place where I feel comfortable leaving them temporarily.
4. How much of your current book is realistic?
100% of my book is realistic. I want the reader to relate to the characters and situations. It might be that quirky friend that almost everyone has, or an embarrassing moment in front of your crush, but I want the reader to say “Oh yeah, I’ve been there, done that and bought the t-shirt.”
5. Are experiences in your current book based on someone you know, or events in your own life?
Bits and pieces are based on real events or people. Like I mentioned, I’m a military brat. I had the experience of moving to a small town my freshmen year, but it wasn’t Myrtle Creek and I didn’t have a Lucas. Although, the sandblast scene at the beach is partially from experience, the rest is pure fiction.
6. Who is your favorite author, and why?
That’s like asking which of my kids I like better. It’s impossible to select just one. A few of my favorites are Sarah Dessen, Judy Blume, Elizabeth Scott and Jennifer Echols. They all have Young Adult romance novels. I enjoy getting swept away in a great love story.
7. Do you have advice for other writers?
Best advice I can give is enjoy what you write and find like-minded individuals who share your passion. It’s great when you have a support system to bounce ideas off of. My husband is my number one fan, but he doesn’t get giddy over an ingenious hook for a plot like my writing friends do. Oh, and also, never give up on your dreams. Solo sat in a drawer for awhile before I got the courage to share it with an editor.

EXCERPT:
At lunch, I bought a peach and a bottle of water. I figured I'd roam the halls so Sasha wouldn't be tempted to harass me. I walked to the large common area near the office where all the bulletin boards were located. I ate my peach while I read information about upcoming activities. There was a spring talent show flyer with a signup sheet, softball and baseball game schedules, and the junior-senior prom flyer.
"Are you planning on going to the prom?"
My heart stopped. I did a double take; it was Lucas. "Well, I'm a sophomore, so no. I don't plan on going to the prom."
He looked surprised. "I didn't realize you were a sophomore."
"Yep."
"So, what's so interesting?" He stepped closer, looking at the board.
"Nothing, really. I'm just killing time. I figured I'd see what's going on around here."
"Oh, okay," Lucas grinned.
"So, you're not in study hall anymore?" I asked, still staring at bulletin board.
"I'm in study hall. I've just been helping Coach with assigning baseball uniforms and getting some extra practice in. Don't worry. I'll be back in the library next week."
I quickly turned my head toward him. "I wasn't worried!" Lucas had a smirk on his face when he turned and walked away. I couldn't even get out what I was trying to say. He's impossible.
